The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Here are some photos from tonights Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show, presented by Vivid Plastic. I made two custom MUNNYs. The first is a bear, where I re-positioned the ears using sculpy, which comes complete with a branch, and a suspended bee hive. For the second, (with the help of my dad and my friend Ray) I created a silicone mold of the MUNNY head, and then used the mold to cast the head in clear resin, with a brain inside. With the brain protruding out of the back of the head for clarity. A professional photographer is scheduled tomorrow to photograph each piece, so I’ll have better photos later.

Also, KidRobot did a feature of the show on their Kronikle blog, including the postcard art that Jeff and I made for the show. Awesome!

33.3 Art Show – Tonight!

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Tonight is Square Records 7th Anniversary, and the 33 1/3 Art Show. I dropped by the gallery earlier today to take some photos before it was too crowded this evening. So here are some photos for those who are out of town. For my sleeve I did Sufjan Stevens’ “Seven Swans,”  with bleach and ink on tan canson paper.

The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show

Vivid Plastic presents The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show. Along with roughly 30+ other artists, I will be creating a pair of custom Munny art-toys for this show! The show will run for 2 weeks in August, and the opening reception on August 14th. I also helped Rob design the advertising for the show, with some illustrative assistance by Jeff Lamm.

The Sketchbook Project – a preview.

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Curated by Art House Co-Op, the Sketchbook Project “is like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.” I’m currently working on my book to submit in January. “Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.”

I’m about half way through my book right now, and it’s developing into a collection of random drawings, often which function as quick snapshots from daily life, as well as a place for me to scavenge random little bits and pieces that I acquire over time. I’m anticipating that a lot of the current pages will change even more as I fill up the rest of the blank pages.

33 1/3 Art Show

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

To celebrate their 7th Anniversary, Square Records will be hosting a special one night art show. For 33 1/3 “33+ local artists reinterpret record covers of their choice in the medium of their choice.” Dave asked me to create the promo images for the event. I will also have a piece in this show. And afterwards you can catch their birthday celebration show at Musica, featuring locals Gabe Schray, Cloud Nothings, White Pines & Dreaded.
