It's been a little while since I've written anything for the Lomography Magazine, but I've got a new article up now. The newest article features photographs by my friend Jennifer Anne Court, who takes dreamy medium-format landscapes and double-exposures with a Hasselblad. Read the full article, here.
Today Josh Ritter announced his new album The Beast in its Tracks, which is set to release on my birthday, March 5, 2013. I designed the new splash page, where you can hear the debut track and pre-order the album in several different formats. The page is built around elements from the album artwork; the drawing by Greg Brown, and design by Matthew Fleming. I'm looking forward to completing several other projects for Josh, to sell on his upcoming tours. Those will be revealed over the next few months.
My newest article in the Lomography Online Magazine is a feature on my pal Sam Kassirer. I first met Sam through designing merchandise for his band, Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band. While on tour, he takes beautiful pictures with his Lubitel & Holga. He answered some questions and revealed tons of photos. Go check out the article!
For the last year, I've been working with my friends on a documentary film called Blood Brother. Last night, all of that hard work paid off at the first sneak peek viewing of the film. It was a very encouraging night of finally seeing the film, and catching up with plenty of old friends. Check out the new poster I designed with Courtney Miller, and watch the trailers below.
My old friend Thom Glunt recently premiered the music video he directed for Ramona Falls' song Fingerhold. I worked with Brent on some Menomena t-shirts way back in 2006, and this year, Thom asked me to create a custom type-treatment for the band name, that could be spelled out in 1/4" cables for the opening shot of the video. Check out some photos from the set, and the video below!
My friends in mewithoutYou are about to start the second leg of their summer tour with Kevin Devine & Buried Beds. They asked me to print some new posters for the trip, so I collaborated with my pal (and the tour-manager's girlfriend) Brittany Willis, who did all of the drawings you see on the poster. She sent me her pencil drawings, and I tackled putting everything together. Considering the theme of their newest record, we figured that a circus-poster was a great idea. The prints will be three-color silk-screened on French's Cream Speckletone paper, 300 copies. I'm going to be printing them over the course of the next couple of days, and they'll hopefully be available at the first show on Friday, in Cleveland.
Novos Akros is the title of the new compilation, faux movie soundtrack, curated by Low in the Sky. A Record Store Day exclusive, CD + Poster release from Square Records & Patternbased. Inspired by the Akron-based roleplaying game OmegAkron, several Akron musicians banded together to create this project as a soundtrack to the movie that was set for production but lost funding prior to filming. Horak handled the illustration, and I took care of the color & design. Grab one of these at Square Records tomorrow for Record Store day! And listen to the full album, below:
My pals in Trouble Books have a new record coming out soon, and I got to lend a small hand in the project. Our friend Jacob Feige has done the paintings for the cover of their last 3 records, and this time around we simplified one of the paintings to make screen-printed inserts to package in with the LP's. The band used to hand-assemble all of their album packaging, and wanted that hand-made element to still be a part of this new record. The record will be limited to 300 copies, and available soon from Bark & Hiss. Listen to one of the tracks, below:
Last month my friend Nick Moeggenberg (Moegly) hit me up about printing some posters for him. He made this Hook inspired image, and had an idea for some prints, I was glad to help the guy out. The prints are now for sale for $25, and all of the proceeds go to Make a Wish Foundation. Learn more about the posters, and their cause, HERE.
This week I got to design my first cassette tape. Akron's Rubber City Noise will be releasing a limited-edition split tape between my pal Andrew Weathers & Ancient Ocean. The music is pretty ambient abstract americana. I'm excited about the clear "smokey" colored tapes that we're having them pressed on. And I took the photo at Lake Erie last year with my Diana.
